Slideway means and excavating machines comprising slideway means

An excavating machine comprising a cutting unit assembly, a stay assembly and a slideway means including a slideway component fixedly secured to one of said assemblies, a slide component guidably slidable with respect to the slideway component under the action of ram means and fixedly secured to the other of said assemblies, the slideway means providing at least two wedge arrangements each carried by one of the components, and further ram means for urging said two wedge arrangements to releasably wedge one of the components to the other of the components, the two wedge arrangements being mounted such that the two wedging actions associated with the two wedge arrangements respectively act in different angular directions when looking along the slideway component to inhibit relative movement between said components in a vertical and horizontal direction when looking along the slideway component.
