Multi-component spun yarn and method and apparatus for manufacturing same

In a method for manufacturing a multi-component spun yarn wherein staple fibers are fed continuously into a spinning system utilizing air and the centrifugal force of a rotary spinning chamber to produce a staple yarn core, the steps which comprise:

• (a) further continuously feeding a separate continuous yarn into the rotary spinning chamber, and wrapping said continuous yarn about the staple fibers in said chamber as said fibers are concurrently wrapped about each other, thereby producing a multi-component spun yarn wherein said continuous yarn is wrapped around a spun yarn formed of said staple fibers, and
• (b) controlling the feed tension of said continuous yarn to a value satisfying the following limitation:
• ##EQU5## where T.sub.f designates the feed tension of said continuous yarn, and T.sub.s designates the yarn tension of said staple yarn core under the existing running conditions but in the absence of said continuous yarn feed.
