Abstract
An alcohol mixture suitable for combining with gasoline is produced by contacting synthesis gas at elevated temperature and pressure with an oxide complex catalyst containing copper, thorium, an alkali metal and at least one other specific element.
Claims10
An alcohol mixture suitable for mixing with gasoline comprising at least about 40% methanol, the remaining of said composition comprising higher alcohols, the distribution of said higher alcohols on a methanol-free basis being
- C.sub.2 --4-25 weight %
- C.sub.3 --0.1-25 weight %
- C.sub.4 --0.5-70 weight %
- C.sub.5 --0.1-12 weight %, and
- C.sub.6 --0.1-10 weight %.
In a modified gasoline composition containing a homogenous solution of gasoline and a mixture of alcohols, the improvement wherein said mixture of alcohols comprises at least about 40% methanol, the remainder of said mixture comprising higher alcohols, the distribution of said higher alcohols on a methanol-free basis being:
- C.sub.2 --4-25 weight %
- C.sub.3 --0.1-25 weight %
- C.sub.4 --0.5-70 weight %
- C.sub.5 --0.1-12 weight %, and
- C.sub.6 --0.1-10 weight %.
An alcohol mixture comprising C.sub.2 to C.sub.6 alcohols, the distribution of said alcohols on a methanol-free basis being:
- C.sub.2 --4-25 weight %
- C.sub.3 --0.1-25 weight %
- C.sub.4 --0.5-70 weight %
- C.sub.5 --0.1-12 weight %, and
- C.sub.6 --0.1-10 weight %.
