Abstract
Novel compounds derived from formylphenoxyacetic acid such as N,N-dihexadecyl-4-(aminomethyl)phenoxy acetamide and N,N-dihexacecyl-2-(4-(aminomethyl)phenoxy) ethylamine and their non-toxic acid addition salts are useful for combating viral infections in vertebrate animals.

A compound of the formula ##STR6## and the non-toxic acid addition salts thereof wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower hydroxyalkyl;
- R.sub.2 is hydrogen or lower hydroxyalkyl;
- R.sub.3 is hydrocarbyl containing 14 to 18 carbon atoms;
- R.sub.4 is hydrocarbyl containing 14 to 18 carbon atoms;
- and X is --CO-- or --CH.sub.2 --.
