Abstract
Methods and apparatus for marbleizing molded parts produced by screw extruder machines. Liquid colorant is advantageously injected at a comparatively high pressure into a melt containing portion of the machine between the screw and its housing, where the melt is either completely molten or more than fifty percent molten.
Claims10
Apparatus for marbleizing molded materials, comprising
- a barrel containing an injection screw for feeding the material to be molded;
- means for injecting liquid colorant into the feed material where the screw is present;
- and means for reciprocating said injection screw to feed the material with said injected colorant and eject the material colorant directly into a mold to produce a marbleized part.
The apparatus as defined in claim 18 wherein said screw has a shut-off and injection of said liquid colorant is made just beyond the most rearward position of said shut-off.
