Abstract
Powders of thermoplastic resins such as polyethylene homopolymer and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer are obtained by agitating molten resin in admixture with water and in the presence of a dispersing amount of an alkali metal salt of an organophosphate ester. The particle size distribution of the dispersed resin can, if desired, be regulated by the addition of base thereto.
Claims11
a process for preparing in finely divided form a solid organic polymeric thermoplastic resin consisting of:
- (a) agitating a mixture of the resin while in the molten state, a dispersion-forming amount of water, and a dispersion-forming amount of an alkali metal salt of an organo-phosphate ester dispersing agent, to provide a hot aqueous dispersion of the resin;
- and,
- (b) cooling the dispersion to below about 100.degree. C. to provide solid particles of resin.
