Abstract
A filler reinforced composite comprising bitumen as a continuous phase and as reinforcement in the bitumen, fillers which have been coated with a chemically-modified bitumen prepared by reacting a bituminous material with a chromium complex.

A reinforced composite comprising a bitumen as a continuous phase and, as reinforcement in the bitumen, a filler selected from the group consisting of natural and synthetic fillers having a coating thereon, said coating consisting essentially of the reaction product of (a) bitumen and (b) a chromic complex containing a carboxylato group containing a functional group reactive with the bitumen.
