A filler reinforced composite comprising bitumen as a continuous phase and as reinforcement in the bitumen, fillers which have been coated with a chemically-modified bitumen composition prepared by reacting a bituminous material with an organo metallic compound.

A reinforced composite comprising a bitumen as a continuous phase and, as reinforcement in the bitumen, a filler selected from the group consisting of natural and synthetic fillers having a coating thereon, said coating comprising the reaction product of (a) bitumen and (b) an organo metallic compound selected from the group consisting of an orthoester and a borate ester.
