Abstract
A digital video processor system adapted to reduce the number of digital data samples by effectively reducing the data rate to allow more efficient handling during any further manipulation. The processor includes a separator for separating data from spacially adjacent video lines into high and low frequency components and adders for adding the high frequency component from each line and adding this summed data to selected portions of the low frequency component to produce data reduction by a factor of two. The data after further manipulation can be reconstituted by similar techniques.
Claims12
A digital video processor system for reducing the number of digital data samples relative to that received at an input thereof by effectively reducing the data sample rate comprising:
- input processor means including a separator for receiving digital video data from spacially adjacent video lines and separating said data into high and low frequency components;
- a first adder for adding together the high frequency component from each line;
- and
- a second adder for adding selected portions of the video data from said first adder to selected portions of the low frequency component to provide the reduction in data therefrom by a factor of two.
A method of reducing the number of digital data samples by effectively reducing the data sample rate comprising:
- receiving video data from two spacially adjacent video lines;
- separating the received data from each line into high and low frequency components;
- adding together the high frequency component from each line;
- selecting portions of the video data from the first adding step;
- selecting portions of the low frequency component of the video data, and
- adding the selected portions of the data from the first adding step to the selected portions of the low frequency component to provide the reduction in data therefrom by a factor of two relative to that received.
