A herbicidal composition comprises a novel compound of benzamide derivative having the formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a straight or branched chain alkyl group; a straight or branched chain alkoxy group; or amino group.

Benzamide derivatives having the formula ##STR4## wherein R represents a straight or branched chain alkyl group, having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, a straight or branched chain alkoxy group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms;
