Abstract
N-H and N-loweralkyl pyrrole-2-acetic acids are prepared by the reduction of 1-H and 1-loweralkyl-.alpha.-trichloromethylpyrrole-2-methanol with sodium dithionite (sodium hydrosulfite) in the presence of a base, MOH, wherein M is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or tetraalkyl ammonium.
Claims6
The process for preparing N-H and N-loweralkylpyrrole-2-acetic acids of the formula:
- ##STR2## which comprises reacting a corresponding compound of the formula:
- ##STR3## in the presence of sodium dithionite and of a base of the formula MOH, wherein in the foregoing formulas, R is hydrogen or loweralkyl, R' is hydrogen or loweralkyl and M is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or a tetraalkylammonium.
