Abstract
This invention relates to a process for the removal of sulfur compounds from a gas stream which consists of contacting said gas stream with alkali metal salts of sulfonamides or resins containing sulfonamide functionalities.
Claims11
A process for removing hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans, sulfides and disulfides from a gas stream which comprises contacting said gas stream with a compound of the structural formula (I):
- ##STR3## wherein Q is selected from the group comprised of alkyl radicals of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl radicals of 4 to 18 carbon atoms, phenyl radical, mono and dialkyl substituted phenyl radicals wherein the alkyl substituents contain 1 to 6 carbon atoms;
- and wherein X is selected from the group comprised of chlorine, bromine or iodine radicals and X.sub.1 is selected from the group comprised of chlorine, bromine, iodine, hydrogen, sodium, potassium and lithium radicals.
A process for removing hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans, sulfides and disulfides from a gas stream which comprises contacting said gas stream with a resin that contains pendant reactive groups of the structural formula:
- ##STR5## wherein X is selected from the group comprised of chlorine, bromine or iodine radicals and X.sub.1 is selected from the group comprised of chlorine, bromine, iodine, hydrogen, sodium, lithium and potassium radicals.
A process for removing hydrogen sulfides, mercaptans, sulfides and disulfides from a gas stream which comprises:
- (a) contacting said gas stream with ferric oxide impregnated on an inert carrier in the presence of a caustic solution, so as to substantially reduce the H.sub.2 S content of said gas stream, then subsequently
- (b) contacting said gas stream with a compound of the structural formula ##STR6## wherein Q is selected from the group comprised of alkyl radicals of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl radicals of 4 to 18 carbon atoms, phenyl radical, mono and dialkyl substituted phenyl radicals wherein the alkyl substituents contain 1 to 6 carbon atoms;
- and wherein X is selected from the group comprised of chlorine, bromine or iodine radicals and X.sub.1 is selected from the group comprised of chlorine, bromine, iodine, hydrogen, sodium, potassium and lithium radicals;
- impregnated on an inert carrier in the presence of a caustic solution.
