Abstract
Novel crystalline silicas and their use as alkylation catalysts, e.g., methylation of toluene. The performance of the catalysts can be improved by selected promoters.
Claims10
A process for preparing a promoted crystalline silica catalyst comprising contacting crystalline silica with a member selected from the group consisting of arsenic oxide, phosphorus oxide, magnesium oxide, boron oxide, antimony oxide, amorphous silica, alkaline earth metal oxides, alkaline earth metal carbonates and mixtures and precursors of the foregoing, and thermally activating the resulting crystalline silica/promoter combination.
A crystalline silica polymorph having essentially clear intracrystalline channels, axes in the range 5.0-6.5 Angstrom units and a density in the range 1.81-1.94 gms/ml.
