Abstract
Compounds containing sulphur-nitrogen groups, such as S.sub.4 N.sub.4, S.sub.5 N.sub.5.sup.+ salts and poly(sulphur nitride), are made by reducing S.sub.4 N.sub.3 Cl or related compounds with anions (e.g. iodide) or metals (e.g. silver). Poly(sulphur nitride) may be made by passing S.sub.4 N.sub.3 Cl vapor or S.sub.5 N.sub.5 FeCl.sub.4 vapor through sulphidized silver wool and condensing the vapor.
Claims15
A compound of the formula (S.sub.3 N.sub.b I.sub.c).sub.x where b is from 1.9 to 2.3, and c is from 0.4 to 1.3.
A method of producing poly(sulphur nitride), comprising contacting S.sub.4 N.sub.3 Cl vapour with silver sulphide and allowing the contacted vapour to condense to give S.sub.2 N.sub.2, which is then allowed to polymerise at room temperature.
A method of producing poly(sulphur nitride), comprising heating S.sub.5 N.sub.5 FeCl.sub.4 in an inert atmosphere to at least 100.degree. C. and condensing the resulting vapour.
