Abstract
An energetic binder comprises a hydroxy-terminated aliphatic polymer having pendant alkyl azide groups and method for producing same.
Claims4
A hydroxy-terminated aliphatic polyether having pendant alkyl azide groups has a general structural formula of:
- ##STR5## wherein x is an integer from 10 to 60 and wherein R is selected from the group consisting of --(CH.sub.2).sub.n N.sub.3, and --CH.sub.2 CHN.sub.3 CH.sub.2 N.sub.3, and wherein n is an integer from 1 to 5.
A process for producing hydroxy-terminated aliphatic polyethers of the general formula ##STR7## by reacting a compound of the general formula ##STR8## with sodium azide in an appropriate polar organic solvent wherein x is an integer from 10 to 60 and wherein R is selected from the group consisting of --(CH.sub.2).sub.n N.sub.3 and --CH.sub.2 CHN.sub.3 CH.sub.2 N.sub.3, and wherein n is an integer from 1 to 5.
