Abstract
Gel-time drift may be reduced in promoted polyester resin systems by incorporation of an amine salt in accordance with the disclosed compositions and methods. The amine salt is a salt-like reaction product of an amine and a carboxylic acid-containing moiety. For free-amine type promoted resin systems, an amine salt may be substituted for the amine promotor to provide a low-energy curable polyester resin system having the advantages of a promoted system as well as being stabilized against gel-time drift. Comparative data show suppression of gel-time drift of resin samples containing an amine salt to as low as 7 percent of gel-time drift of counterpart free-amine promoted resin system samples.

- (c) an inhibitor in an amount in a range from about 0.001 to about 0.1 weight percent of the resin system;
- and
- (d) an amine salt in an amount in a range from about 0.02 to about 2 weight percent of the resin system, said amine salt comprising the salt-like reaction product of an amine and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid.
A method for formulating and treating a curable unsaturated polyester resin system to provide a treated promoted resin system wherein gel-time drift is reduced relative to an untreated free-amine promoted resin system, which system comprises unsaturated polyester and ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and one or more additive chemical-or-physical property-altering components, the method comprising:
