Abstract
Highly siliceous crystalline zeolitic molecular sieve compositions, having pore diameters of approximately 6 Angstroms, are prepared hydrothermally from reaction mixtures free of organic cations. These novel zeolites can be distinguished from all other zeolites on the basis of certain infrared spectral characteristics and have hydrophobic/organophilic properties which permit their use in selectively adsorbing organic materials from water, either in liquid or in vapor phase.
Claims16
A synthetic crystalline zeolitic molecular sieve having a chemical composition expressed in terms of moles of oxides of
- 0.8-3.0 M.sub.2 O :
- Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 :
- 10-100 SiO.sub.2 :
- 0-40 H.sub.2 O
- wherein M represents a metallic cation and n represents the valance of M, and having an X-ray powder diffraction pattern having at least the d-spacings set forth in Table I, said zeolitic molecular sieve after being calcined in air at a temperature of 600.degree. C. having an infrared spectrum exhibiting substantially no absorption within the rainge of 3600-3100 cm.sup.-1.
