Abstract
The additives for coating compositions comprise as an essential component an organopolysiloxane having in the molecule at least one siloxane unit to which one or more mercapto-substituted hydrocarbon groups are bonded. The additives serve to impart blocking resistance to surfaces.
Claims9
In a paint, lacquer, or varnish composition which contains an organopolysiloxane, the improvement which comprises said organopolysiloxane being present in an anti-blocking effective amount within the range from about 0.05% to 15% by weight based on the solids in the composition and having the formula ##EQU4## where R.sup.1 is a divalent hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.2 is a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group other than the mercapto-substituted hydrocarbon groups;
- R.sup.3 has the same definition as R.sup.2 ;
- Y is a hydroxy group or a hydrolyzable group;
- a is 1, 2 or 3;
- b is 0, 1 or 2;
- c is 0, 1 or 2, with the proviso that (a+b+c) is 1, 2, or 3;
- d is 0, 1, 2 or 3;
- m is a positive number;
- and
- n is 0 or a positive number.
