Abstract
A method of producing silicon steel strip from slabs is provided which includes the steps of reducing the slabs in a planetary mill to a thickness of 0.060 to 0.10 inch at a temperature above that at which MnS will precipitate, cooling to between 800.degree. F. to 1500.degree. F. and reducing the strip at that temperature to a thickness of 0.020 to 0.030.
Claims5
The method of producing silicon steel strip for magnetic purposes from slabs comprising the steps of:
- (a) heating the slabs to a temperature above 2200.degree. F., to stabilize MnS, and immediately rolling said slabs into strip in a planetary mill of the Zendzimer type to a thickness range of about 0.060 to 0.150 inch while maintaining the temperature in the temperature range 2100.degree. F. to 2200.degree. F., during said rolling, and
- (b) quenching the strip to precipitate MnS.
The method of producing silicon steel strip for magnetic purposes from slabs comprising the steps of:
- (a) heating the slabs to a temperature above 2200.degree. F., to stabilize MnS, and immediately rolling said slabs into strip in a planetary mill of the Platzer type to a thickness range of about 0.060 to 0.150 inch while maintaining the temperature in the temperature range 2100.degree. F. to 2200.degree. F., during said rolling, and
- (b) quenching said strip to precipitate MnS.
The method of producing silicon steel strip for magnetic purposes from slabs comprising the steps of:
- (a) heating the slabs to a temperature above 2200.degree. F. to solubilize MnS;
- and
- (b) rolling the heated slabs in a planetary mill to a thickness range of about 0.060 to about 0.150 inch while maintaining the temperature in the range 2100.degree. F. to 2200.degree. F.;
- and
- (c) quenching the strip to precipitate MnS.
