Abstract
The present invention describes the production of high molecular weight polyhydric alcohols and their derivatives. In particular the urethane reaction products of polyisocyanates and polyhydric alcohols are described. The particular urethane products of the present invention are obtained using an alcohol having a terminal hydroxyl functionality and a geminal hydroxymethyl structure. The particular urethan products of the present invention are obtained using an alcohol having a terminal hydroxyl functionality and a geminal hydroxymethyl structure.
Claims19
The urethane linked reaction product of a gem-bis(hydroxymethyl) alcohol of the formula:
- CH.sub.3 (CH.sub.2).sub.m [C(CH.sub.2 OH).sub.2 ].sub.n (CH.sub.2).sub.p [C(CH.sub.2 OH).sub.2 ].sub.q (CH.sub.2).sub.r [C(CH.sub.2 OH).sub.2 ].sub.s (CH.sub.2).sub.t CH.sub.2 OH
- and from about 80% to about 120% on a hydroxyl-isocyanate equivalent basis of a polyisocyanate wherein n, q and s are integers the sum of which is from 1 to 3, and m through t are integers the sum of which is from 12 to 20.
