Abstract
4-Phenylpiperidines bearing substituents at the 1,2,4 and 5-positions are potent analgesics. Pharmaceutical formulations containing such compounds and a method for effecting analgesia are provided.
Claims8
A tetrahydropyridinium salt of the formula ##STR7## wherein:
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen, hydroxy or methoxy;
- R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently are C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl;
- R.sup.5 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl, benzyl, or CH.sub.2 R.sup.6 wherein R.sup.6 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.7 alkenyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl;
- and
- X.sup.- is a suitable anion.
