Abstract
A diphenyl ether represented by the general formula (I), ##STR1## wherein R is a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a lower alkoxyethyl group, the alkoxy substituent of which having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a lower alkoxyethoxyethyl group, the alkoxy substituent of which having 1 to 4 carbon atoms is capable of controlling annual and perennial weeds.

A diphenyl ether represented by the general formula (I), ##STR4## wherein R is a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a lower alkoxyethyl group, the alkoxy substituent of which having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a lower alkoxyethoxyethyl group, the alkoxy substituent of which having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
3-Methoxy-4-nitro-2'-chloro-4'-trifluoromethoxy(diphenyl ether).
3-Methoxyethoxyethoxy-4-nitro-2'-chloro-4'-trifluoromethoxy(diphenyl ether).
3-Methoxyethoxy-4-nitro-2'-chloro-4'-trifluoromethoxy(diphenyl ether).
3-Ethoxy-4-nitro-2'-chloro-4'-trifluoromethoxy(diphenyl ether).
3-Ethoxyethoxy-4-nitro-2'-chloro-4'-trifluoromethoxy(diphenyl ether).
3-Ethoxyethoxyethoxy-4-nitro-2'-chloro-4'-trifluoromethoxy(diphenyl ether).
2,4-Bis(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethoxyphenoxy)-nitrobenzene.

A process for producing a diphenyl ether represented by the general formula (I), ##STR6## wherein R is a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a lower alkoxyethyl group, the alkoxy substituent of which having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a lower alkoxyethoxyethyl group, the alkoxy substituent of which having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, which comprises reacting a compound having the formula, ##STR7## with a compound having the formula,
- R--O--M (III)
- wherein R is the same as defined above and M is an alcoholate-forming metal atom.
A herbicide comprising as active ingredient a diphenyl ether represented by the general formula (I), ##STR8## wherein R is a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a lower alkoxyethyl group, the alkoxy substituent of which having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a lower alkoxyethoxyethyl group, the alkoxy substituent of which having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and a diluent.
A herbicide comprising as active ingredient a diphenyl ether represented by the general formula:
- ##STR9## wherein R is methyl or ethyl, and a diluent.
