Abstract
Increased selectivity to vinylidene chloride is obtained in the catalytic vapor phase dehydrochlorination of 1,1,2-trichloroethane by conducting the reaction in the presence of a cesium nitrate catalyst.

In a process for dehydrochlorinating 1,1,2-trichloroethane in the vapor phase and in the presence of a dehydrochlorination catalyst to produce vinylidene chloride, the improvement wherein cesium nitrate is used as the dehydrochlorination catalyst.
