Abstract
Described are derivatives of 2-oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octanes and precursors therefor, cyclohexenemethanols as well as lower alkyl esters of said cyclohexenemethanols. The oxabicyclooctanes are useful in perfumery and foodstuff and medicinal product flavors. The cyclohexenemethanols are useful as precursors for the oxabicyclooctanes.

A process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma of a perfume composition or cologne comprising the step of intimately admixing with a perfume base an aroma augmenting or enhancing quantity of a compound having the structure:

A perfume composition comprising (i) an aroma augmenting or enhancing quantity of the compound having the structure:
- ##STR18## and (ii) that alcohols other than the alcohol defined in this claim, aldehydes, ketones, nitriles, ethers, lactones, natural essential oils, synthetic essential oils and hydrocarbons.
A cologne comprising ethanol, water and a compound having the structure:
- ##STR19##
