Abstract
N-(heterocyclicaminocarbonyl)arylsulfonamides, such as 3-isocyanato-N-[(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]benze nesulfonamide or methyl [3-[[(4-methoxy-6-methylpyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]aminosulfonyl]phenyl] carbamate, are useful for the regulation of plant growth and as herbicides.
Claims12
A compound or an agriculturally acceptable salt thereof which has the formula:
- ##STR155## wherein R.sub.1 is H, Cl, Br, F, CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.3 or NO.sub.2 ;
- R.sub.2 is --NCO, ##STR156## R.sub.3 is alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms;
- R.sub.4 is H or CH.sub.3 ;
- R.sub.5 is H, alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or methoxy;
- X is methyl, methoxy or ethoxy;
- Y is methyl or methoxy;
- and
- Z is N;
- provided that
- (a) when R.sub.2 is ortho to the sulfonylureido group, then R.sub.1 must be hydrogen and R.sub.2 cannot be --NCO;
- (b) when R.sub.5 is methoxy, R.sub.4 is methyl;
- and
- (c) when R.sub.2 is --NCO;
- the compound cannot be a salt.
