Abstract
Described is a process for preparing cyclohexadiene derivatives having the generic formula: ##STR1## wherein R is one of C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, R.sub.1 is methyl when R.sub.2 is hydrogen comprising the step of reacting a 1-alkyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexa-1,3-diene or a 1-alkyl-3,4,4-trimethylcyclohexa-1,3-diene with oxygen in the presence of light, an ultraviolet sensitizer, and a basic catalyst; and fractionally distilling the resulting product.
Claims2
The process for preparing the compound having the structure:
- ##STR14## wherein R is one of C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, R.sub.1 is methyl when R.sub.2 is hydrogen, and R.sub.1 is hydrogen when R.sub.2 is methyl, comprising the step of insufflating a composition consisting essentially of a compound having the structure:
- ##STR15## with oxygen in the presence of ultraviolet light, a basic catalyst and a rose bengal sensitizer.
