Abstract
An adapter for a conventional threaded electric light socket or the like having an external right hand threaded base for threading into a conventional socket. A locking tab on the base permits the adapter to be threaded into the socket and jams the threads of the socket to prevent its removal. The adapter has a cavity with an internal left hand thread for receiving an unconventional bulb or the like with a mating left hand threaded base. In one form, the adapter has a releasable lock structure for holding the adapter in the socket. A removal tool is used to release the lock structure to permit the adapter to be turned into and out of the socket.
Claims20
An apparatus for mounting and removing an adapter from a socket, said adapter having releasable locking structure for holding the adapter in the socket, said locking structure including a band spring with an end portion and a finger connected to the spring, comprising:
- a casing, tool means mounted on the casing and engageable with the locking structure to release the locking structure whereby the adapter can be removed from the socket, said tool means having a lip engageable with the end portion to move the spring and finger to a non-locking position, said casing having a flange that surrounds a portion of the adapter, said flange having a slot for accommodating a part of the adapter and aligning the lip with the end portion whereby movement of the lip will release the locking structure.
An apparatus for mounting and removing an adapter from a socket, said adapter operable to mount and electrically connect a light bulb having an electrically conductive sleeve to a conventional electrical socket and including a tubular member having a threaded first end section adapted to mate with the threaded cavity of a conventional electrical socket, said tubular member having a first end section accommodating locking means for locking the adapter in the socket to prevent its removal, said tubular member further having a second end section, said second end section having an internal threaded wall forming an adapter cavity for accommodating the threaded sleeve of a light bulb, a first electrical conductor means extended between the first end section and engageable with a portion of the socket and the second end section engageable with a portion of the sleeve to provide an electrical connection between said end sections and the socket and the sleeve of the bulb, a second electrical conductor means insulatively mounted on the tubular member adapted to contact the center of the base of the bulb in the center of the socket comprising:
- tool means adapted to be located in the adapter cavity, said tool means including lip means engageable with the locking means to release the locking means from locking engagement with the socket, said tool means and tubular member having coacting means which cooperate so that on rotation of the tool means after the locking means is released the adapter is rotated to thereby selectively mount or remove the adapter from the socket.
An adapter for mounting and electrically connecting a light bulb having an electrically conductive sleeve to a conventional electrical socket and apparatus for selectively mounting or removing the adapter from the socket comprising:
- a tubular member having a threaded first end section adapted to mate with the threaded cavity of a conventional electrical socket, said first end section having locking means for locking the adapter in the socket to prevent its removal, said tubular member having a second end section, said second end section having an internal threaded wall forming an adapter cavity for accommodating the threaded sleeve of a light bulb, said tubular member further including first electrical conductor means extended between the first end section and engageable with a portion of the socket and the second end section engageable with a portion of the sleeve to provide an electrical connection between said end sections and the socket and the sleeve of the bulb, second electrical conductor means insulatively mounted on the tubular member adapted to contact the center of the base of the bulb in the center of the socket, and adapter mounting and remover means engageable with the locking means to release the locking means and tubular member having coacting means which cooperate so that on rotation of the adapter mounting and remover means after the locking means is released the adapter is rotated to thereby selectively mount and remove the adapter from the socket.
