Abstract

Novel pyridyl alkyl sulfonic acid betaines useful as additives to nickel electroplating baths.

Dependent claims

A pyridyl alkyl sulfonic acid betaine having the formula:

##STR18## in which the substituent --(CH.sub.2).sub.n SO.sub.3.sup..crclbar. is in the 2- or 4-position of the pyridyl ring;
n is the integer 1 or 2;
and R is a member selected from the group consisting of CH.sub.2 (CH.sub.2).sub.x CH.sub.2 SO.sub.3 Na wherein x is the integer 1 or 2;
sodium 2-hydroxypropylsulfonate;
sodium 2-hydroxybutylsulfonate;
and sodium 3-hydroxybutylsulfonate.
