Abstract
A method of synthesizing H.sup.11 CN involving the proton irradiation of N.sub.2 + H.sub.2 to produce a mixture of .sup.11 CH.sub.4 and NH.sub.3 followed by the reaction of .sup.11 CH.sub.4 and NH.sub.3 to produce H.sup.11 CN and the separation of carrier free H.sup.11 CN.
Claims6
The method of synthesizing H.sup.11 CN comprising the steps of:
- a. subjecting a gaseous mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen to irradiation by a beam of protons having an energy in the range of about 4 to 18 MeV to induce the .sup.14 N(p,.alpha.).sup.11 C reaction and produce an effluent containing NH.sub.3 and .sup.11 CH.sub.4 ;
- b. reacting the .sup.11 CH.sub.4 and NH.sub.3 in said effluent to form H.sup.11 CN + H.sub.2 ;
- and
- c. removing the H.sub.2, N.sub.2 and remaining NH.sub.3 to obtain H.sup.11 CN.
