Abstract
It has been discovered that fungal foliar phytopathogens may be controlled by the use of a broad class of 2,6-dinitroanilines. The fungicidally-effective compounds may bear a broad range of substituent groups on the anilino nitrogen and in the 3- and 4-positions of the benzene ring.
Claims16
A method for reducing the incidence and severity of grape downy mildew which comprises applying to the foliage of the host plant a fungicidally-effective amount of a dinitroaniline compound having one of the following formulae:
- ##STR49## wherein X is N(R.sup.16).sub.2, N.dbd.S(R.sup.17).sub.2, N(R.sup.18)CH.sub.2 Het, N.dbd.CHN(CH.sub.3).sub.2, N.dbd.C(R.sup.19)OR.sup.20, or N.dbd.CHOR.sup.21 ;
- R.sup.14 is H, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- when R.sup.14 is H, R.sup.15 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 secondary alkyl;
- when R.sup.14 is not H, R.sup.15 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, cyclopropylmethyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, halo C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkyl or halo C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl;
- one of R.sup.16 is H or CH.sub.3 and the other is H, SCCl.sub.3, CH.sub.3, phenylthio, OH, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or NH.sub.2 ;
- each R.sup.17 is independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl, phenyl or benzyl;
- Het is 2,5-dimethylpyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkylpiperidino, hexahydroazepino, 2,2-dimethylaziridino, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkylpiperazino;
- R.sup.18 is H or methyl;
- R.sup.19 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl or phenyl;
- R.sup.20 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- and
- R.sup.21 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl;
- ##STR50## wherein R.sup.29 is H, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl;
- when R.sup.29 is H, R.sup.30 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 secondaryalkyl;
- when R.sup.29 is not H, R.sup.30 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- and
- n is 1.
A method for reducing the incidence and severity of tomato late blight which comprises applying to the foliage of the host plant a fungicidally-effective amount of a dinitroaniline compound of the formula ##STR52## wherein X' is N(R.sup.33).sub.2, N.dbd.S(R.sup.34).sub.2, N(R.sup.35)CH.sub.2 Het', N.dbd.CHN(CH.sub.3).sub.2, N.dbd.C(R.sup.36)OR.sup.37, or N.dbd.CHOR.sup.38 ;
- R.sup.31 is H, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- when R.sup.31 is H, R.sup.32 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 secondary alkyl;
- when R.sup.31 is not H, R.sup.32 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, cyclopropylmethyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, halo C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkyl or halo C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl;
- one of R.sup.33 is H or CH.sub.3 and the other is H, SCCl.sub.3, CH.sub.3, phenylthio, OH, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or NH.sub.2 ;
- each R.sup.34 is independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl, phenyl or benzyl;
- Het' is 2,5-dimethylpyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkylpiperidino, hexahydroazepino, 2,2-dimethylaziridino, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkylpiperazino;
- R.sup.35 is H or methyl;
- R.sup.36 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl or phenyl;
- R.sup.37 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- and
- R.sup.38 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl.
