Abstract
A flexible mica sheet is made by: (A) mixing solid and liquid epoxide resin in a dual solvent system, (B) adding an organo-titanate catalyst, and mixing to form a homogeneous admixture, (C) applying the admixture to a sheet material comprising mica, so that organo-titanate contacts the mica, causing organo-titanate to act as a latent catalyst, and (D) removing solvent, to form a flexible B staged epoxide resin containing an amount of organo-titanate effective to cure the epoxide in the sheet material heating.
Claims9
A flexible, void-free, high voltage capability, mica insulation sheet material, consisting essentially of mica and a contacting polymerizable, flexible, dry resinous composition consisting of a homogenous mixture of an epoxide resin and an amount of organo-titanate compound effective to cure the epoxide at temperatures of at least about 140.degree. C;
- wherein the epoxide resin contains from about 95 to 99 weight percent solids and the organo-titanate compound is selected from the compounds having the structural formula Ti(OR).sub.4, wherein each R group is independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, aryl group, Cl, Br or NO.sub.2 substituted aryl groups, alkaryl groups with the alkyl constituent having from about 1-10 carbon atoms, Cl, Br or NO.sub.2 substituted alkaryl groups with the alkyl constituent having from about 1-10 carbons, alkaryl groups with the alkyl constituent having from about 1-10 carbon atoms, cyclopentane groups, cyclopentene groups, cyclopentadiene groups, cyclohexane groups, cyclohexene groups and cyclohexadiene groups and wherein the organo-titanate contacts mica causing the organo-titanate to act as a latent catalyst, said resinous composition being capable of fusion upon heating to form a cured, inflexible material.
