Abstract

Disclosed are compounds of the formula, ##STR1## or WHEREIN D is, ##STR2## X is --COOM or --SO.sub.3 M, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, independently, are hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1-3 alkyl or C.sub.1-3 alkoxy, m is 1, 2 or 3, and, when 3, the two sulpho groups are other than on adjacent carbon atoms, n is 1 or 2, With the proviso that the sum of n + m is 3 or 4, R.sub.3 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-3 alkyl or C.sub.1-3 alkoxy, R.sub.4 is hydrogen or C.sub.1-3 alkyl, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, when both other than hydrogen, being in para position relative to each other, R is hydrogen or, ##STR3## it being hydrogen only when D is, ##STR4## in which the --COOM group is m- or p- to the azo linkage, R.sub.5 is --CHR.sub.6 --CHR.sub.6 --O--CHR.sub.7 CH.sub.2 O--.sub.p H, either both R.sub.6 's are hydrogen, or one of the R.sub.6 's is hydrogen, the other methyl or ethyl, R.sub.7 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R.sub.8 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkyl or --CHR.sub.6 --CHR.sub.6 --O--CHR.sub.7 CH.sub.2 O--.sub.q H, Y is --NR.sub.9 R.sub.10 or --N(R.sub.11)--CHR.sub.6 .ltoreq.CHR.sub.6 --O--CHR.sub.7 CH.sub.2 O--.sub.r H, R.sub.9 and R.sub.10, independently, are hydrogen or C.sub.1-6 alkyl, preferably both not being simultaneously tertiary alkyl, R.sub.11 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkyl or --CHR.sub.6 --CHR.sub.6 O--CHR.sub.7 CH.sub.2 --.sub.t H, p, q, r and t, independently, are 0, 1, 2 or 3, and M is hydrogen or a non-chromophoric cation, their production and use in the dyeing of paper and leather, particularly the former, optionally in the form of concentrated liquid or powder or granulate dyeing preparations. The compounds have good solubility in cold water, substantivity and pH stability and produce dyeings having notable fastness to light and resistance to bleeding.
