Abstract
Zr.sub.2 Ni sorbs both oxygen and hydrogen from water making its use advantageous as a getter metal in a nuclear reactor fuel element.
Claims9
A process for sorbing both oxygen and hydrogen from water comprising contacting the water with a getter metal consisting essentially of Zr.sub.2 Ni
- wherein the partial pressure of the water is less than 100 torr;
- wherein the getter metal has a temperature of 150.degree. to 700.degree. C;
- wherein the getter metal is capable of sorbing up to 5 weight percent of water.
A process for sorbing both oxygen and hydrogen from water vapor present in admixture with helium in a nuclear reactor fuel element the walls of which are constructed of a zirconium alloy, said process comprising contacting the water vapor with a getter metal consisting essentially of Zr.sub.2 Ni maintained at a temperature of 200.degree. to 500.degree. C
- wherein the partial pressure of the water is less than 100 torr;
- wherein the getter metal is capable of sorbing up to 5 weight percent of water.
