Claims6
In a personal care product for topical application to the human body, comprising a topically administrable vehicle and, as adjuvants in said vehicle, i) an antiseptic or odourant or both, and ii) a compound capable of stimulating the cold receptors of the nervous system in the surface tissues of the body when brought into contact therewith by topical application of the said product, the improvement which comprises using as said cold receptor stimulating compound an effective amount of a cold receptor stimulating acyclic sulfoxide or sulfone of the formula:
- ##STR10## wherein R.sub.1 is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl;
- R.sub.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl;
- R.sub.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl;
- R.sub.1, r.sub.2 and R.sub.3 together provide a total of from 3- 15 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl;
- R.sub.1, r.sub.2, r.sub.3 and R.sup.1 together provide a total of from 6-18 carbon atoms;
- and
- x is an integer from 1- 2 inclusive.
A method of stimulating the cold receptors of the nervous system of the surface tissues of the body which comprises contacting the receptors with an effective amount of a cold receptor stimulating sulfoxide or sulfone of the formula:
- ##STR11## wherein R.sub.1 is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl;
- R.sub.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl;
- R.sub.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl;
- R.sub.1, r.sub.2 and R.sub.3 together provide a total of from 3- 15 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl;
- R.sub.1, r.sub.2, r.sub.3 and R.sup.1 together provide a total of from 6-18 carbon atoms;
- and
- x is an integer from 1- 2 inclusive.
