Abstract
Cyclohexane derivatives such as cyclohexanol, cyclohexyl halides and cyclohexyl carboxylates are produced directly from aromatic hydrocarbons. The reaction may be carried out, under hydrogenation conditions, by reacting an aromatic hydrocarbon with hydrogen and a reagent selected from the group consisting of water, hydrogen halides and carboxylic acids in the presence of a strong acid and a hydrogenation catalyst.
Claims20
A process for producing a cyclohexane derivative having the general formula ##STR2## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of chlorine, bromine and iodine R is a lower alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of from 0 to 2, which process comprises reacting an aromatic hydrocarbon having the general formula ##STR3## wherein R and n are the same as above, with hydrogen and a compound having the general formula HX, wherein X is the same as above, in the presence of a strong acid and a hydrogenation catalyst that contains at least one noble metal of Group VIII metals at a pressure of 0.01 - 500 Kg/cm.sup.2 and at a temperature of 0.degree.-300.degree.
