Abstract
Improved supported thallium(III) reagents are provided which significantly improve reaction rates and product selectivity of oxythallation reactions. The present reagents have a thallium(III) salt of an acid on the surface and within montmorillonite clay minerals.
Claims6
A supported thallium reagent consisting essentially of a thallium salt of a Bronsted acid and a support comprising an acidic montmorillonite clay mineral having a surface area greater than about 200 m.sup.2 /g, said reagent containing 0.5 to 50 weight percent thallium with at least 75% of the thallium in the +3 oxidation state.
