Abstract
The engine crankcase is connected to the intake manifold of carburetor engines through a poppet valve with spring adjusted so that the valve is closed while starting, partly open while idling, closed during acceleration and wide open during deceleration whereby to maintain relatively uniform optimum vacuum in the manifold. The crankcase is also connected with the intake air cleaner. Both sides of V-type engines are connected to the valve inlet.
Claims3
The method of continuously withdrawing gases from the crankcase of a carburetor engine of a vehicle to minimize atmospheric pollution and improve the operation of the engine which method comprises conveying crankcase gases from the crankcase to the intake manifold and/or the carburetor air intake as follows:
- conveying substantially all of the gases withdrawn from the crankcase to the carburetor air intake and substantially none of said gas to the intake manifold during acceleration, conveying substantially all of said gases to the intake manifold during deceleration, and continuously withdrawing gases from the crankcase for passage through the engine during other modes of operation of the engine.
The method of ventilating the crankcase of a carburetor engine of a vehicle and improving the operation thereof which comprises conveying relatively small quantities of gases from the crankcase to the intake manifold during the idling mode of operation of the engine, conveying maximum quantities of gases from the crankcase to the intake manifold during deceleration, conveying gases from the crankcase to the carburetor air intake and none to the intake manifold during acceleration, and conveying substantially no gases to the intake manifold during the starting of the engine.
