A process for preparing substituted cyclopropylcarbinyl compounds of the formula ##STR13## wherein each R is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl and substituted alkenyl substituents, and E is a substituent derived from an electrophile source selected from the group of inorganic compounds consisting of Cl.sub.2, Br.sub.2, I.sub.2, HgCl.sub.2, ZnCl.sub.2, AlCl.sub.3, NOCl, SO.sub.3, and HCl, comprising admixing an organotin compound of the formula
- (CR.sub.2 = CRCR.sub.2 CR.sub.2).sub.x SnR.sub.4-x.sup.1
- wherein x is an integer of from 1-4 and R.sup.1 is an alkyl substituent, with said electrophile source.
A process for preparing substituted cyclopropylcarbinyl compounds of the formula ##STR14## wherein each R is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl and substituted alkenyl substituents, and E is a substituent derived from an electrophile source which is an organometallic compound of the formula
- R.sup.5 MX
- wherein R.sup.5 is an alkyl, aryl, substituted alkyl or substituted aryl substituent, M is a metal selected from the group consisting of zinc and mercury and X is a halogen, comprising admixing an organotin compound of the formula
- (CR.sub.2 = CRCR.sub.2 CR.sub.2).sub.x SnR.sub.4-x.sup.1
- wherein x is an integer of from 1-4 and R.sup.1 is an alkyl substituent with said electrophile source.
