Abstract
A process for the manufacture of .alpha.,.alpha.'-aminonitroanthraquinones, from .alpha.,.alpha.'-dinitroanthraquinones, wherein the .alpha.,.alpha.'-dinitroanthraquinones are reacted with ammonia in dipolar aprotic solvents which are inert to ammonia, the reaction substrates and reaction products.

A process for the manufacture of .alpha.,.alpha.'-aminonitroanthraquinone from an .alpha.,.alpha.'-dinitroanthraquinone with a selectivity of at least about 70% comprising the step of reacting an .alpha.,.alpha.'-dinitroanthraquinone with ammonia in a dipolar aprotic solvent which is inert to ammonia, the reaction substrate and the reaction product said ammonia being present in excess of, at most, about 50% over the stoichiometric amount.
