Abstract
A stream of gas atomized particles moves past a secondary gas stream towards a substrate. The secondary stream is directed in an oscillatory manner against the stream of atomized particles to deflect the latter such that the particles are distributed in a controlled manner over the surface of the substrate.
Claims7
A process for spraying atomized particles onto a substrate comprising the steps of:
- producing a stream of gas atomized particles and directing the stream towards said substrate;
- directing secondary streams of gas sequentially against the stream of gas atomized particles from opposite sides thereof to deflect the stream of gas atomized particles and to impart thereto a continuous oscillation substantially in a single plane, said secondary streams each having a component of motion which is in the undeflected direction of flow of the stream of atomized particles and each having a maximum pressure in the same order of magnitude as the pressure of the gas in the atomized particle stream;
- and
- moving said substrate relative to the plane of the particle stream whereby the plane intersects said substrate along a line substantially at a right angle to the direction of movement of the substrate.
