Abstract
This disclosure describes a novel class of antibiotics, three of which have been designated AM31.alpha., AM31.beta., and AM31.gamma. and are produced in a microbiological fermentation under controlled conditions using a new strain of Streptoverticillium netropsis.
Claims1
A process for the production of a mixture of antibiotics of the formula:
- ##STR4## wherein R is hydrogen, acetyl or propionyl which comprises cultivating Streptoverticillium netropsis NRRL 5774 or mutants thereof in an aqueous nutrient medium containing assimilable sources of carbohydrate, nitrogen, and inorganic salts under submerged aerobic conditions until substantial antibacterial activity is imparted to said medium, and then recovering the antibiotic mixture therefrom.
