A method of combating unwanted vegetation which comprises applying to the locus of the unwanted vegetation or of seeds thereof a herbicidally effective amount of a fluoropyridine compound of the formula:

##STR37## wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals and ammonium ion.
