Abstract
The compounds are 1-amino-2-heterocyclic-alkylamino-cyclobut-1-ene-3,4-diones which are histamine H.sub.2 -antagonists.

A compound of the formula:
- ##STR4## wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl;
- Z is sulphur or methylene;
- and Het is an imidazole ring optionally substituted by methyl or bromo;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof.
