Abstract
The preparation and use of halogenated 3-isothiazolidinone 1-oxides and 1,1-dioxides are disclosed. These compounds and compositions containing them are useful in controlling weeds and microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, algae and the like.

A compound of the formula ##STR10## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen;
- (C.sub.1 -C.sub.18) unsubstituted alkyl or hydroxy, halogen, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) carbalkoxy, cyano or carboxy monosubstituted (C.sub.1 -C.sub.18) alkyl;
- a cycloalkyl group having a (C.sub.3 -C.sub.8) cycloalkyl ring and up to 12 carbon atoms;
- unsubstituted benzyl, or halogen-, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl-, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkoxy-, nitro or cyano- substituted benzyl;
- phenyl or naphthyl, or halogen-, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, or nitro- substituted phenyl or naphthyl;
- X is halogen;
- and
- n is 1 or 2.
