Abstract
Polymers of unsaturated copolymerizable carboxylic acids, at least one acrylic or methacrylic ester containing an alkyl of 10 to 30 carbon atoms, and another acrylic or methacrylic ester containing an alkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, optionally with a small amount of a cross-linking agent, rapidly absorb and retain large quantities of water and ionic fluids, and are useful in disposable nonwoven articles.
Claims19
An interpolymer of monomers comprising from about 40 to 87 weight percent of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, 2 to 20 weight percent of an (1) acrylic ester monomer of the formula ##STR6## where R' is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and R contains 10 to 30 carbon atoms and 5 to 30 weight percent of (2) at least one other acrylic ester monomer of the formula ##STR7## wherein R' is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and R contains 1 to 9 carbon atoms.
