Abstract
The present invention relates to an improved vulcanization accelerator composition. More particularly, it relates to storage stable blends of accelerators, particularly benzothiazole sulfenamides and thiuram sulfides, and to a method for their preparation.
Claims21
A stabilized accelerator composition for rubber comprising (a) a primary accelerator compound represented by Formula (I):
- ##STR13## wherein Q represents a benzothiazyl or morpholinyl radical;
- R.sup.11 and R.sup.12 are, individually, selected from hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl or taken together with the nitrogen atom, combine to form a 5- or 6- membered heterocyclic ring;
- x is 1 or 2 and y is 0 or 1, provided that when x is 2, y is 0;
- (b) a thiuram sulfide and (c) an effective stabilizing amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of (1) polyacrylic acid, (2) carboxylic acids represented by Formula (II):
- ##STR14## wherein R represents hydrogen, methyl, phenyl or a -COOH group and R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl;
- (3) amides represented by the Formula (III):
- ##STR15## wherein R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are, individually, hydrogen or methyl, m is an integer from 1-3, inclusive, and Z is selected from -NH.sub.2, -NHR.sup.4, -N(R.sup.5).sub.2, -(NH).sub.2 R.sup.6, -(NHCH.sub.2 O).sub.2 R.sup.7 or ##STR16## wherein R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are, alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or hydroxymethyl, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are, alkylene, arylene or oxydialkylene and (4) esters represented by the Formula (IV):
- ##STR17## wherein R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as defined above, n is an integer from 1-4, inclusive, provided that when n is 1, Y is OR.sup.8 wherein R.sup.8 is alkyl or alkoxyalkyl;
- when n is 2, Y is --OR.sup.9 O-- wherein R.sup.9 is alkylene or oxydialkylene;
- when n is 3, Y is ##STR18## wherein R.sup.10 is alkylene;
- and when n is 4, Y is ##STR19##
