Abstract

Novel 9-substituted or unsubstituted thienyl-3,7-dimethyl-nona-2,4,6,8-tetraene derivatives, useful as antitumor agents as well as processes for their preparation and novel intermediates are disclosed.

A compound represented by the formula ##STR23## wherein one of R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is ##STR24## and the other of R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are hydrogen, lower alkyl, nitro, and R.sub.5 is carboxyl, alkoxycarbonyl, alkenoxycarbonyl, and alkynoxycarbonyl.
