Abstract
New macrocyclic ketolactones, especially 15-methyl-15-ethyl- and 15,15-dimethyl-12-oxo-15-hydroxytetradecanecarboxylic acid lactone. The new ketolactones have an intense and delicate woody musky odor and may be employed as scents and fixatives.

The ketolactones of the general formula I ##STR4## where R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are --CH.sub.3, --C.sub.2 H.sub.5 or --CH= CH.sub.2. 2. 15,15-dimethyl-12-oxo-15-hydroxy-tetradecanecarboxylic acid lactone.
