Abstract
Ar-halo-ar(t-alkyl)styrenes, e.g., 2-chloro-4-(t-butyl)styrene, polymerize to form materials having unusually high temperature resistance. Additionally, compositions of such monomers, unsaturated polyesters and free-radical generating catalysts cure at lower temperatures and in less time than similar compositions containing conventional styrene monomers.
Claims7
A normally solid polymer of an ar-halo-ar-(t-alkyl)styrene wherein halo is chloro, bromo or fluoro and tertiary alkyl has from 4 to 8 carbon atoms and is in a ring position para or meta to the ethylentically unsaturated group of the ar-halo-ar-(t-alkyl)styrene, said polymer capable of being fabricated into useful articles according to known techniques for fabricating conventional styrene polymers.
