Abstract
Polymeric hydroquinones of the structure ##STR1## , wherein n is from 3 to 10,000 inclusive and R and R' independently are hydrogen or a lower alkyl, are disclosed, as is the preparation and the use of such materials, especially as nonabsorbable polymeric antioxidants for edible materials.

An oxidizable composition stabilized against the oxidative edible degradation comprising an oxidizable material having admixed therewith a stabilizing amount in the range of from 2 ppm to 50,000 ppm by weight of the polymeric hydroquinone represented by the structural formula ##STR7## wherein R and R' are independently selected from the members of the group consisting of hydrogen and lower saturated alkyls of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms inclusive and n has a value of from 3 to 10,000 inclusive.
